The Story of a Toymaker: Wooden Toy Cars

Read what happens when Jeff is let on the loose in the shop!

“When I started thinking about making toy cars, they had to be special, they had a lot to live up to. Expectations were high. They needed to be simple, but I need them to be cool. Like “Hot Wheels” cool. I can’t help it. Toys should be awesome, and this is just the beginning, there’s more to come.”

We recently decided to take some time in the shop to just create. Creating for fun is how some of our favorite things have been discovered! We usually start with an idea, then making it better, then adding that extra “can we make really make this work” factor. That is how Jeff came up with these!

What was Jeff’s inspiration? Well, as a little boy who loved his toys, he worked hard to save his quarters and he carefully selected what toy he would invest in. It had to be special, it had a lot to live up to. No matter how wonderful it was or how carefully it was cared for, parts would wear out and fail over time. So he learned how to fix them. That love of toys has never faded, instead of just fixing things, he started making new things. Now making toys is part of the plan, and we are really excited to see where this takes us!

Need a wooden car of your own? We have a few of our wooden cars available to test drive, along with some of our other work at the Blue Mind Gallery in Bear River, Nova Scotia. We also have a few listed on our Etsy shop if you’d like to find out more about them!

This makes me wish I had someone to give a wooden car to. Maybe Steve would like one?
    Great post.
